Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose New Hope Lutheran Academy for my child’s education?
We are the premier Christian school in South Brevard that offers low student-to-teacher ratios and teaches the truths of the Bible without any additions or subtractions.
What is your school’s curriculum based on?
Our curriculum is based on what God tells us to be true and right in the Bible and the Next Generation Florida Sunshine Standards.
What is the student-teacher ratio?
It varies from year to year and classroom to classroom. Currently we are averaging 12 students per teacher.
How does your school select their teachers and what are their qualifications?
All of our teachers receive a divine call to serve the Lord. The teachers have received a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education from Martin Luther College and are certified in the state of Florida. We do not simply hire teachers from the area. We issue divine calls based upon their qualifications and gifts to serve the students of our school.
Does your private school use standardized tests such as the FCAT?
Students in grades three through eight are required to take a series of Terra Nova tests in the fall of each year. The tests are used to gauge student progression and identify any weaknesses in our curriculum. Our standardized tests ARE NOT used solely to determine whether or not a student can progress to the next grade level.
What is the admissions process?
Parents schedule an appointment to meet with the principal. If principal and parents agree that New Hope Lutheran Academy could be a proper fit for their child’s education, the parents complete the paperwork and pay the registration fee. Next, the parents, principal, classroom teacher, and student all meet to discuss responsibilities and expectations for the classroom. Finally, the principal along with a member of the education committee and our reporting/individual educational plan (IEP) specialist will make the final decision regarding enrollment.
How much is tuition for your school?
Tuition is $4,800 for the year, which includes tuition, registration, book fees, standardized testing and uniforms. For a second child, tuition is $3,225, and $2,150 for a third child. Tuition may be broken down into nine or eleven monthly payments. August 1st starts the nine-month payment plan and June 1st begins the eleven-month payment plan. The final payment for both plans is May 1st. No tuition payment is required in the month of February; instead the annual registration fee for the next school year is due along with the application for enrollment.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. See the link on our website which discusses the three forms of scholarships accepted at NHLA.
How does the multi-grade classroom work?
Careful planning, organized teachers, and God-fearing, obedient students are all pieces that make the multi-grade classroom a thriving educational environment. See the link on our website which addresses the benefits of a multi-grade classroom.
Do I have to be Lutheran or join the church if my child attends your Christian school?
No. We encourage parents to visit with our pastor and principal to discuss what our church body believes and teaches so parents can better understand what their children will be taught on a daily basis.
